Canada PNP 2026: How Provincial Nomination Can Help You Get PR
For skilled professionals planning to settle in Canada, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) remains one of the most important pathways to Canada PR in 2026. Canada has set a 2026 PNP admissions target of 91,500, reflecting the continued importance of provincial immigration in addressing regional labour-market needs.
Unlike a single national program, the PNP allows participating provinces and territories to nominate candidates whose skills and experience align with their economic and workforce requirements.
How Does Canada PNP Work?
Canada's provinces and territories operate different immigration streams for skilled workers, graduates, entrepreneurs and other candidates.
PNP pathways generally fall into two broad categories: Express Entry-aligned PNP streams and non-Express Entry PNP streams.
For Express Entry candidates, provincial nomination can be particularly valuable. Once an eligible candidate accepts an Express Entry-linked nomination, IRCC awards 600 additional CRS points.
For example, a candidate with a CRS score of 430 who receives a provincial nomination could move to 1,030 CRS points, significantly improving their position for a PNP-specific Express Entry invitation.
Importantly, a nomination does not automatically grant permanent residence. Candidates must still receive an invitation where applicable, submit their PR application and meet IRCC's admissibility and program requirements.
