You’ve got the work experience, the savings, and a solid plan. Then a single English test, booked without checking the details, throws it all off. It happens more often than you’d think.
Here’s everything you need to know about CELPIP before you pay a rupee.
What Is CELPIP?
CELPIP stands for the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) accepts it for eligible permanent residence and citizenship applications.
It tests the English you’d actually use in daily life, so there’s no fancy vocabulary to memorize.
There are two versions, and they are not interchangeable:
- CELPIP-General covers listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It’s for permanent residence.
- CELPIP-General LS covers only listening and speaking. It’s for citizenship.
Check which one your application needs before you book. Picking the wrong one means paying twice.
What Happens on Test Day?
The whole test is on a computer, and you finish it in one sitting. CELPIP-General takes about two hours and 50 minutes. The LS version takes about one hour and 10 minutes. Timings can shift a little with the format.
You’ll face four parts:
- Listening: You follow conversations, discussions, and spoken information.
