1. Skilled Employment in South Australia
The published stream requires applicants to be living and working in SA, with at least 12 months of residence and qualifying employment. Employment must be ongoing, at least 30 hours weekly, and related to and at the same skill level as the nominated occupation—generally within the same first two ANZSCO digits.
Other requirements include an eligible occupation, positive skills assessment, Competent English, at least 65 points including nomination, and being under 45 when nomination is approved. The published priority sectors are construction, defence, education, engineering, health and manufacturing; competitive applicants in other sectors may also be considered. For applicants already working locally, this makes employment documentation an important preparation task. Check that references describe your actual responsibilities and that dates and hours agree with your other records.
2. South Australian Graduates
The graduate pathway combines study and employment conditions. Published study requirements include a CRICOS-registered course of at least 46 weeks, the required qualification level, at least 75% of the qualification completed in SA, and at least one year’s residence in SA during study.
Applicants also need the preceding six months of SA residence and six months of qualifying post-course employment, currently working at least 30 hours weekly. 3. Outer Regional Skilled Employment
The published outer-regional stream requires applicants to have lived and worked in qualifying outer regional SA for the preceding nine months and to remain employed for at least 30 hours weekly. Do not confuse the federal regional classification with this stream’s narrower geographic requirement. Adelaide’s eligibility as a regional location for Subclass 491 does not mean it satisfies the Outer Regional Skilled Employment stream.
4. Offshore applicants
For professionals exploring Australia PR from India, the offshore pathway is especially relevant to investigate when the new program opens.
Published rules require at least three years of skilled experience in the nominated or closely related occupation within the preceding five years. Certain specifically listed construction and trade occupations have a reduced requirement of one year within three years. The occupation must be available for offshore nomination, and federal and state requirements still apply.

EOI vs ROI: understand the South Australia process
Under the published process, onshore applicants lodge a SkillSelect Expression of Interest and a separate South Australian Registration of Interest. Offshore applicants use SkillSelect and do not submit an ROI. Nomination applications follow an invitation; neither an EOI nor an ROI is a visa application.
Invited applicants submit their nomination application through the Apply Portal, with the required documents and correct EOI ID, before the invitation deadline.
