You’ve landed a sponsored job offer in Melbourne. The contract says AUD 80,000, and you’re already scrolling flat listings. Then the employer’s migration agent calls: “We might have a problem.”
That problem is more common than you’d think. It’s why the Australia 482 visa salary threshold for 2026–27 deserves a close look before you sign anything.
The Australia 482 Visa Salary Threshold in Plain Numbers
From 1 July 2026, the income thresholds for the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa went up. The new amounts apply to nominations lodged between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027.
| Visa stream | 2025–26 | 2026–27 |
|---|---|---|
| Core Skills (CSIT) | AUD 76,515 | AUD 79,423 |
| Specialist Skills (SSIT) | AUD 141,210 | AUD 146,576 |
Why the jump? Home Affairs indexes these figures every year to wage growth, and this year’s rise was about 3.8%, in line with Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings. So a salary that worked last year may fall short today. Employers shouldn’t reuse an old figure when they prepare a nomination.
