Australia has issued 20,000 invitations for Permanent Residency (PR) under its Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189), giving skilled professionals another opportunity to move forward with their migration plans. The invitation round was held on 15 October 2026. The Australian Department of Home Affairs has published the results, including the minimum points scores and tie-break dates for different occupations.
The biggest takeaway is the difference in points required across professions. While several trade workers received invitations at 65 points, some specialized professionals needed 100 points. The results also provide an update on state and territory nominations for the Subclass 190 and Subclass 491 visas, giving applicants more information about Australia's skilled migration pathways.
