Canada Visa Update: How Long Will Indians Now Wait for Approval?

The biggest improvement in this update was seen among work permit applicants applying from the United States. Their estimated waiting time dropped from six weeks to three weeks.

Study permit processing times also changed for some countries. Applicants applying from inside Canada now face an estimated wait of eight weeks, up from six weeks. Meanwhile, Pakistan saw a reduction from six weeks to five weeks.

Processing times for people already in Canada

IRCC has also revised the waiting periods for people who want to extend their stay in Canada.

The latest estimates show some improvement in work permit extensions and visitor record applications.

A visitor record is a document that allows someone already in Canada to extend their authorized stay as a visitor. It is different from a visitor visa.

What should applicants know?

Although some categories have seen shorter waiting periods, Indian applicants have not experienced major changes in this update.

IRCC's published processing times are estimates, not guaranteed deadlines. Actual waiting periods may vary depending on application completeness, background checks, document verification, and the department's workload.

Applicants planning to travel, study, or work in Canada should check the official IRCC processing-time tool before making travel arrangements. Keeping track of these updates and submitting complete applications can help applicants plan their next steps more effectively.
