Who can use ESTA?
Some foreign nationals can visit the United States without applying for a traditional visitor visa. They must be citizens or nationals of a country in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and meet its entry conditions.
Before travelling, they need approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, commonly called ESTA.
How long can you stay?
An approved ESTA allows eligible visitors to travel for tourism or certain business purposes for up to 90 days per visit. It does not permit a longer stay or ordinary employment in the US.
ESTA approval is generally valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. A new application is needed if you receive a new passport, change your name or citizenship, or if certain answers in your application change.
Apply before your departure
US Customs and Border Protection recommends applying when you book your trip rather than waiting until the last minute. The current application fee is US$40.27. An approved ESTA allows you to travel under the VWP, but it does not guarantee admission. A CBP officer makes that decision when you arrive. Travellers who are not eligible for the VWP must check which visa category applies to their visit.
World Visa Group helps individuals explore permanent residency opportunities when short-term travel is only one part of their international plans.
