Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program

Join Canada's workforce with the Federal Skilled Worker Program

  1. About Canada FSWP:

    • The overall Express Entry Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a key immigration pathway for skilled workers who wish to immigrate to Canada permanently. It is part of the Express Entry system, which manages applications for three main economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.

    • The Federal Skilled Worker Program is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who intend to live and work in Canada as permanent residents. To be eligible, candidates must meet certain criteria, including having at least one year of consistent full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in a qualifying occupation, meeting minimum language proficiency requirements in English or French, having sufficient funds to support themselves and their families in Canada, and obtaining an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) if their education was obtained outside of Canada.

  2. Eligibility For FSWP:

    • Work Experience: Every applicant needs to have at least one year (1,560 hours) of full-time work experience, or an equivalent amount in part-time work, in a skilled occupation (National Occupational Classification - NOC). This experience must be within the last decade and in an occupation classified as Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations), Skill Level A (professional occupations), or Skill Level B (technical occupations and skilled trades).

    • Education: Every applicant needs to have completed a foreign educational credential equivalent to a Canadian secondary school (high school) diploma or higher. Additionally, they need to have completed an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) to determine the Canadian equivalency of their foreign education.

    • Language Proficiency: All applicants need to demonstrate proficiency in English or French by taking an approved language test. The language test results must meet the minimum threshold set by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

    • Express Entry Profile: Applicants need to create an Express Entry profile and be eligible for one of the three federal economic immigration programs managed through the Express Entry system: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), or the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

    • Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score: Applicants also need to obtain enough points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to be invited to apply for permanent residency. CRS points are awarded based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other additional factors (e.g., Canadian job offer, provincial nomination).

  3. Application Process For FSWP:

    • Once you meet the eligibility criteria, create an online profile through the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. Provide information about your skills, work experience, language ability, education, and other relevant details.

    • Upon completing your profile, you will receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other additional factors like having a valid job offer or provincial nomination.

    • Your profile will enter the Express Entry pool along with other eligible candidates. You will be ranked based on your CRS score, and candidates with the highest scores will receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draws in terms of federal skilled worker class.

    • Collect all required documents, including identification documents, educational credentials, language test results, proof of funds, and any additional documents requested by IRCC. Pay the required application fees and submit your application online through your IRCC online account in terms of the Canadian skilled worker visa.
