Canada is changing how it rewards skilled workers under Express Entry, and a high salary alone will not be enough to qualify for the new points. From November 3, 2026, eligible candidates can earn additional CRS points through qualifying Canadian work experience in high-wage occupations or a qualifying job offer in an eligible occupation.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has also clarified how it will classify occupations, assess job offers, and handle changes to its eligible occupation list. These details could make a difference to candidates planning their Canada PR applications.
How many CRS points can candidates earn?
The points depend on the occupation's wage tier and the applicant's eligibility.
Points for qualifying job offers
| Wage threshold | CRS points |
|---|---|
| At least twice the national average median wage | 100 |
| At least 1.5 times the national average median wage | 70 |
